Both Ken Shamrock and pro wrestling legend Kurt Angle are teasing a major announcement in regards to Bellator 145 next week.
After a whole lot of flirting with the idea over the last decade (or longer), could Kurt Angle actually have finally decided to step into an MMA cage? Well, it doesn’t seem likely. But he is pumping up a major announcement for Bellator 145 next week. In addition to that, Ken Shamrock is doing the same thing.
However, don’t get your hopes up about them actually fighting. Jeremy Botter of Bleacher Report shot the idea of that down not long after the initial tweets from Shamrock and Angle.
Angle, a 46-year-old pro wrestling legend and Olympic wrestling gold medalist in 1992, has negotiated with the UFC before. Most notably, he was considered to be a part of TUF 10 but couldn’t clear the medicals and never came to a deal. After a long, fruitful run with WWE, he moved to TNA in 2006 and has mostly been there ever since. He has a serious history of neck issues and brushes with the law, mostly related to DUIs.
Shamrock made his return to MMA against Kimbo Slice in June, losing by first-round knockout after almost securing a submission victory. The 51-year-old hasn’t won a fight since 2010.
UPDATE: Angle has been brought in for a Fan Fest prior to Bellator 145. Here’s a portion the press release:
“Santa Monica (Oct. 28, 2015) – On November 5, combat sports fans from all around the country will converge on the Dave & Busters in Maryland Heights, Missouri for the “Official Bellator Fan Fest,” where they can meet several of their favorite athletes and receive photos and autographs.
